Plettenberg Bay, Garden Route, is a horseshoe shaped bay approximately 10km from Tsala Treetop Lodge. It was christened “Bahia Formosa” (beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers, named so for its beautiful scenery and temperate Mediterranean climate. Plettenberg Bay is a favoured holiday resort during both the cool winters and the warm summers, hosting a wide variety of activites to keep visitors entertained throughout their stay and offering a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Marine life, including whales and dolphins, frolic in the sea swell close to the beautiful golden shores and white beaches near Lookout Rocks from July to October. The abundant marine life can be experienced through boat cruises that are available to take visitors out into the bay. Plettenberg Bay also offers a wealth of activities for sport lovers including hiking, mountain biking, skydiving, hanggliding, canoeing and various watersports.

Att the foot of the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains lie indigenous forests that consist of a unique mix of fynbos and temperate rain forest. World-renowned trails wind through the forests and give hikers the opportunity to view South Africa’s last remaining forest elephants in their natural habitat. Approximately 300 different bird species can be found in the variety habitats ranging from fynbos to wetlands to forest.

Nearby is the famous Bloukrans River Bridge bungee jump which is a big attraction for adrenaline lovers; at 216 meters high, it is the highest commercial bungee jump in the world.

For the less adventurous, the main street of Plettenberg Bay is lined with cafés and shops that provide plentiful shopping for those who’ve had enough of the outdoors. Restaurants, pubs and night-spots keep the magical seaside town alive at night.
